Sedation Appointments
Important Information For Parents/Guardians – Sedation Appointments
To ensure safe and effective treatment at the Reading Sedation Clinic, please carefully read the following requirements for your child'sappointment:
Arrival Time & Numbing Cream
• All children under 18 years of age must arrive 20 minutes before their scheduled sedation appointment.
• This allows time for the application of EMLA cream (local anaesthetic cream) to numb the skin before the cannula isplaced.
Compliance
• Children must be able to tolerate cannula placement calmly.
• If a child is unable or unwilling to tolerate this process, they will be marked as Non-Compliant.
• In this case, your child will be referred back to their own dentist and will need to be managed through an alternativeclinical pathway.
Parental/Guardian Responsibility
• Parents/guardians must be aware of the tolerance required for IV sedation.
• Please prepare your child in advance by explaining what will happen on the day.
• Ensure an appropriate escort is available to accompany your child home after sedation.
Attending early and cooperating with cannula placement is essential for your child to be safely treated undersedation.
